Our extra-curricular highlights
NSW Governor visits our school
Howlong Public School staff Mrs Boutsakone Sayasenh (Principal), Mr John Curtis (school librarian) and School Captains River and Lawson were excited to welcome Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales and Mr Wilson to the school. Her Excellency and Mr Wilson were following the Howlong History Trail and looking at the early school building and a plaque which was uncovered when garden work was done.
The Governor presented River and Lawson with commemorative medallions. The Governor's visit although brief was very memorable and something not everyone gets to experience.
Cultural Immersion Day
We hosted local Wiradjuri artist, Uncle David Dunn and Indigenous educator Martin White Jnr for a day of immersive cultural learning.
Students in Years 3-6 engaged in some sessions to explore Wiradjuri art with Uncle David, learning traditional techniques and cultural stories through painting.
Martin White Jnr gave students a hands-on workshop on Indigenous tools and cultural sports, gaining insight into Wiradjuri heritage and practices.
This is a unique opportunity for our students to gain a deeper understanding of local Indigenous culture through creative and interactive learning led by respected indigenous community members.
Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.
Out and About
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
